An Airman's Story: Brigadier General Robin Olds

Brigadier General Robin Olds was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on July 14, 1922. His family moved to Hampton, Virginia, and he attended Hampton High school, where he was the class president and member of the 1937 state champion varsity football team. Brigadier General Robin Olds graduated in 1939 and turned down scholarships to both the Virginia Military Institute and Dartmouth University to attend West Point's Millard Prep School. He was accepted into the West Point military academy in July 1940 and played for the West Point football team. After the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 and the beginning of World War II his academy education was interrupted so he could attend the Spartan School of Aeronautics. Unfortunately, his entire class graduated a year early, in June of 1943, because of World War II. A Soldier's Story: Sergeant Guillermo Esteban Perez

  Sergeant Guillermo Esteban Perez was born on February 10, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas.  Although he was a student at San Antonio College, he enlisted in the US Army on July 17, 1963, and deployed to Vietnam for the Vietnam War. An Airman's Story: Technical Sergeant Daniel Guillermo Perez

Technical Sergeant Daniel Guillermo Perez was born on June 26, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas.   He enlisted in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and would later re-enlist in the US Air Force Reserves, serving as a loadmaster in the 433rd Military Aircraft Wing. Technical Sergeant Perez deployed to the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm / Desert Shield and the Gulf War.  On August 29, 1990, while carrying medical supplies from Ramstein, Germany, his plane crashed. A Soldier's Story: Specialist Leonard Louis Alvarado

Specialist Leonard Luis Alvarado was born on February 13, 1947, in Bakersfield, California.  He graduated from East Bakersfield High School and enlisted in the US Army shortly after graduation in 1968. He deployed to Vietnam for the Vietnam War with the 12th Calvary and would earn a Congressional Medal of Honor on August 12, 1969, while his unit was on route to aid another platoon in the Phuoc Long Province.  His unit came under attack, and Specialist Leonard Alvarado returned fire and kept up a steady rate of suppressive fire, despite receiving wounds that would prove fatal and allowed his unit to withdraw.
