An Airman's Story: Brigadier General Rosanne "Ro" Bailey

  Brigadier General Rosanne "Ro" Bailey was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 10, 1950. She graduated from St. Edmund's School and attended high school at Oak Park and River Forest High School. Brigadier General Rosanne "Ro" Bailey went to Purdue University and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in economics. She enlisted in the US Air Force in 1977. She immediately went to Officer's Training School before taking command posts in Germany and obtaining a Master's in Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1984.  Brigadier General Ro Bailey returned to Germany before moving to Cheyenne Mountain and Eielson. She was instrumental in the development of tactical warning systems for homeland security. She retired from the US Air Force in 2006, remaining in Fairbanks, Alaska, and continued her work on unmanned aircraft detection with the University of Alaska. A Sailor's Story: Lieutenant Junior Grade David Richmond Metcalf

  Lieutenant Junior Grade David Richmond Metcalf was born on March 27, 1976. He grew up in Marrietta, Georgia. He was a natural athlete, swimmer, wrestler, and martial artist. He enlisted in the US Navy in 2000. He was accepted into SEAL training and graduated in 2002. Lieutenant Junior Grade David Richmond Metcalf deployed multiple times with his SEAL team to the Pacific, Iraq, and Afghanistan.   Wanting to contribute more, Lieutenant Junior Grade David Richmond Metcalf applied for and was accepted into the Interservice Physician's Assistant program and the University of Nebraska. He graduated in 2016 and was assigned to the 8th Marine Regiment.  On January 2, 2019, Lieutenant Junior Grade David Richmond Metcalf died from complications of repeated traumatic brain injuries and PTSD.   He rests at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.   Staff Sergeant Damon Valentine Keaw Kanuha was born in Maui, Hawaii, on November 28, 1962. He moved with his family to San Diego as a child and graduated from Crawford High School, where he played football.   He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1981. Staff Sergeant Damon Valentine Keaw Kanuha trained as a flight engineer and was assigned to the 16th Special Operations Squadron.   Staff Sergeant Damon Kanuha deployed to Saudi Arabia in September 1990 in response to Desert Storm/Desert Shiel and the Gulf War. On January 31, 1991, Staff Sergeant Damon Valentine Kew Kanuha died during his service while aboard Spirit 03, an AC 130H Spectre Gunship, which was providing cover fire for US Marine troops during the Battle of Khafji. The plane was hit by a surface-to-air missle and crashed into the Persian Gulf.   The plane was eventually recovered in March 1991, and Staff Sergeant Damn Valentine Keaw Kanuha was repatriated to the US. A Marine's Story: Private First Class Herbert "Hal" Albert Littleton

  Private First Class Herbert "Hal" Albert Littleton was born on July 1, 1930, in Mena, Arkansas. He moved with his family to Blackhawk, South Dakota, where he attended Sturgis Brown High School and played basketball and football. Private First Class Hal Littleton enlisted in the US Marine Corps Reserve in July 1948, shortly after his high school graduation, and trained as a telephone man. While in the reserves, he worked as an appliance repairman in Rapid City, South Dakota, before moving to Napa, Idaho. He worked as a lineman for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph. Private First Class Herbert Littleton was called to active duty in September 1950 in response to the Korean War. Private First Class Herbert A. Littleton was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 11th Marines, and deployed to central Korea. He earned a Congressional Medal of Honor on April 22, 1951.   Senior Master Sergeant Paul Garfield Buege was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 11, 1947. He graduated from Custer High School before enlisting in the US Air Force in July 1968. He served through the end of the Vietnam War before being assigned to the 16th Special Operations Squadron. Senior Master Sergeant Paul Garfield Buege deployed to Grenada in  October 1983 for Operation Urgent Fury and to Panama in December 1989 for Operation Just Cause.  In September 1990, Senior Master Sergeant Paul Garfield Buege deployed to Saudi Arabia aboard the AC130H Spectre Gunship "Spirit 03" in response to Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and the Gulf War. A Marine's Story: Captain Jacklyn "Jack" Harold Lucas

Captain Jacklyn "Jack" Harold Lucas was born on February 14, 1928, in Plymouth, North Carolina. e attended the Edwards Military Institute and was an all-around athlete, playing football, basketball, and softball. He also boxed and wrestled, as well as skeet and trap shooting. Captain Jacklyn H. Lucas left school at 14 and enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 8, 1942, forging his mother's signature in response to World War II. After training, where he qualified as a sharpshooter, he was first posted to Jacksonville, Florida, before leaving for Pearl Harbor in November 1943.   Dissatisfied with his duty station on Pearl Harbor and wanting to enter combat, on January 10, 1945, Captain Jacklyn Harold Lucas stowed aboard the USS Deuel with the 26th Marines. He turned himself in to command when far enough out to sea and was busted down to a private and assigned to rifleman duties.
