A Soldier's Story: Private Claude Brown - WWI

Private Claude Brown was born September 4/9, 1895, in Abbeville, Alabama. He worked as a farm laborer on the Solomon and Oates Farm.  In June 1917, in response to WWI, he enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to the 157th Depot Brigade at Camp Gordon, Georgia. He served until early 1919 before returning to Abbeville.   In 1928, Private Claude Brown relocated to Roanoke, Virginia, dying on September 26, 1933 of tuberculosis. A Soldier's Story: Chief Warrant Officer George Richard Swartzendruber - Gulf War

  Chief Warrant Officer George Richard Swartzendruber was born on March 1, 1966, in Newton, Kansas. The son of missionaries, he traveled extensively during his early years, attending grade school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and High School In Pap New Guinea. He earned his helicopter pilot's license in San Diego, California. He enlisted in the US Army in November of 1987. Trained as a Black Hawk pilot, he was assigned to the First Combat Brigade and deployed to the Persian Gulf in November 1990 in response to Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and the Gulf War.   On February 27, 1991, Chief Warrant Officer George Richard Swartzendruber died during his service after his helicopter was struck by anti-aircraft fire while on a mission to retrieve a downed Air Force Pilot. A Soldier's Story: Private First Class James Harvey Booth - WWI

  Private First Class James Harvey Booth was born in Nanaimo, Canada, on February 6, 1895.    His family, originally from Virginia, returned to the Roanoke area during his early years. He returned to the West, working as a chauffeur at the Guarantee Tire Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, before enlisting in the US Army in 1917. Private First Class Booth was assigned to the 8th Coastal Artillery as the company cook.  He served at Fort McArthur, California, until the end of World War I and then transferred to Fort Bayard, New Mexico, as a cook for the post hospital. A Marine's Story: Corporal Jason Lee Dunham - War on Terror

  Corporal Jason Lee Dunham was born in Scio, New York, on November 10, 1981.  He was a basketball player who graduated from Scio High School in 2000 and enlisted in the US Marine Corps shortly after. He was first sent to Kings Bay, Georgia, before deploying to Iraq with the 7th Marine Regiment in 2004.   Corporal Jason Lee Dunham earned a Congressional Medal of Honor on April 14, 2004.  While supporting another Marine Corps convoy under attack.  While bringing the enemy combatants under control, one of the attackers dropped an armed grenade.  Corporal Dunham attempted to use his helmet to shield himself and his unit from the shrapnel.  He was severely injured by the explosion and evacuated.  Corporal Jason Lee Dunham succumbed to his injuries on April 22, 2004, at the National Naval Medical Center. He rests at Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio, New York. The USS Jason Dunham, the DDG 109 destroyer, is named in his honor. * Read about a.d. elliott's Everyday Patriot Project here* *********

A Soldier's Story: Private First Class Cindy Deana Jane Bridges - Gulf War

  Private First Class Cindy Deana Jane Bridges was born on September 15, 1970, in Chattanooga Tennessee.  While young, she moved to Decatur, Alabama, and attended Austin High School.  After graduation, she enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to the 260th Quartermaster Battalion as a driver.  She deployed to Saudi Arabia in October 1990 in response to Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and the Gulf War. Private First Class Cindy "DJ" Bridges would die during her service on March 14, 1991, when her truck rolled, returning from a supply run.
