An Airman's Story: Major Richard Warren Chase - Vietnam War/Gulf War

  Major Richard Warren Chase was born in South Bend, Indiana, on February 18, 1947.  He graduated from Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana, and was part of the school's debate team and choir.  Major Richard Chase was a graduate of Purdue University. He enlisted in the US Air Force on January 2, 1970, and served as a pilot until the end of the Vietnam War. He left active duty in December 1982. Major Richard Warren Chase remained in the US Air Force Reserves. In 1990, he was recalled to active duty with the 433rd Airlift Wing in response to Operation Desert Storm and the Gulf War.  Major Chase was assigned to Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany and was responsible for transporting medical supplies, food, and equipment to the Persian Gulf. A Soldier's Story: Private Berry Edwards - WWI

Private Berry Edwards was born about 1895 in Southwestern Virginia.  He worked as a coal miner before enlisting in the US Army in 1918 in response to the US entry into World War I. He was assigned to the 6th Pioneer Infantry and trained at Camp Sherman in Chillicothe, Ohio. At the end of his service, Private Berry Edwards returned to Southwestern Virginia, moving to Roanoke, Virginia, in December 1918.   Private Willie McCray was born in North Carolina on January 15, 1891.   He worked as a plasterer before enlisting in the US Army in July 1918 in response to World War I. He trained at Camp Jackson, South Carolina, before being assigned to Fort McDowell on Angel Island, near San Francisco, California. After the war, in January 1919, Private Willie McCray moved to Roanoke, Virginia, and returned to work as a plasterer.
